Random Post 1: Future Locations of Dwelling

As we get closer and closer to graduation, some major life decisions are coming our way. Most of these decisions are dictated by a career path or professional goal. But the question of what you want to do with your life is almost equally as important as where you want to do your life.  As a student of the Marshall School of Business, one of the most significant factors contributing to our professional success is our network. Relationships are everything. This is what has been taught to us as we begin strategizing our entrance into full-time employment. Relationships are also more maintainable when geography permits them to do so. In addition to professional relationships, there are personal relationships like friends, family, and partners. But when I think about where I want to live and the people I want to surround myself with, I just don’t have the answer yet.  I think that home will always have a unique attraction to me because of the fond memories. My hometown is Ve...

Book 1 Post 2

I resumed reading about Mike Brown’s journey as he and his team came to discover “Object X” which came to be known as Xenon, the tenth planet. As he talks more and more about this discovery that he was sitting on, it becomes apparent that he is at a crossroads at the midpoint of the book about what direction he wants to take his life as well as this new discovery. This direction that he chooses will guide him into the next phase of his life especially since he is settling into a career path and deciding to marry his wife. I thought that this was relevant for college students reading this book because oftentimes at the end of college, most students will begin doubting their post-grad direction as they approach graduation. Some super-students are able to go full steam ahead towards their chosen career path with unwavering certainty in their decision, but a shred of doubt is commonly found in these meaningful decisions. Beyond this decision, the next phase that the author endured was...

Taco-bout the King of Tacos To preface, I am no king of tacos. But if “eating tacos in Los Angeles is a sport”, I could be the Kobe of eating tacos with how much I eat tacos (LA Taco Staff, 2023). Tacos in general are elegant creatures in this crazy world. There are only a few moving parts when it comes to this classic Mexican dish, which makes the concept of a taco easy to understand by most people. This dish, aside from other Mexican foods, can be described as “the ultimate individual eating experience” and even though you can find tacos almost anywhere, it does not undermine the importance of making the food taste good (Carpenter, 2021). These individual experiences contribute to the comfort that one feels from eating a taco. For example, the moment you get off work after not eating beforehand could lead you straight to the nearest taco stand. Another scenario is grabbing a quick bite (of tacos) on your lunch break or break between classes. What about after a night out of the ...

Book 1 Post 1

The author of How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming , Mike Brown, writes an intriguing recount of his time discovering a small planet that he named Xena. After receiving the book in the mail, my first question was how does this relate to Pluto? The structure of the book was very intentional and well thought out because the Prologue explained the significance of Pluto to Xena, the tenth planet the author discovered, thus providing his audience with the essential context when heading into the rest of the book. This context is paramount for understanding how all the starting efforts before he discovered Xena, contributed to his later discovery of the tenth planet. Even reading about his experience when he learned about planets when he was a child and how that evolved into looking at the sky to notice patterns of stars was key to understanding his mindset when approaching his work of discovering a new planet.   There were several parts throughout the beginning of this...
