Random Post 1: Future Locations of Dwelling
As we get closer and closer to graduation, some major life decisions are coming our way. Most of these decisions are dictated by a career path or professional goal. But the question of what you want to do with your life is almost equally as important as where you want to do your life.
As a student of the Marshall School of Business, one of the most significant factors contributing to our professional success is our network. Relationships are everything. This is what has been taught to us as we begin strategizing our entrance into full-time employment. Relationships are also more maintainable when geography permits them to do so. In addition to professional relationships, there are personal relationships like friends, family, and partners. But when I think about where I want to live and the people I want to surround myself with, I just don’t have the answer yet.
I think that home will always have a unique attraction to me because of the fond memories. My hometown is Ventura, California and even though many people probably have never heard of it, I can’t help but think that I will return there someday. It’s the optimal combination of being close to Los Angeles while still being a small beach town. Even in this class, I wonder how many people will be returning to their hometowns after graduation. Another question is how many people are moving somewhere purely based on a job. The job market is suffering right now, so I wonder how many more students are getting pulled to new cities and new experiences. I know that if I got a job offer outside of California, I would most likely accept the offer despite my preference of wanting to stay in California.
Hey Connor! I feel your same dilemma about where the future might take you. I am also from California (Pasadena) and wonder about where future opportunities might take me. I like the city I grew up in and hope to one day, later in future, return here. As of now, I would definitely like to travel somewhere new. I would suggest to remain positive about where you end up and look forward to new adventures! With that being said, I wish you the best for your future plans!
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about this extensively as well. We are now just two and a half months away from graduation and I try and make the most of everyday that I have here in Los Angeles. Though I don't want to leave California like yourself, I think that the harsh reality is is that I might have to depart due to a job offer like you mentioned. I hope that you can stay in California just the same as I hope for myself. California is the greatest of the 49 other states and saddens whenever I do think about leaving it.
ReplyDeleteHey Connor, even though unlike most of you I'm still a freshman, I'll be moving to Hong Kong next year and then Milan. Its always been a dream of mine to live in many different places and seeing the path I've embarked myself upon its naturally something I think about a lot.
ReplyDeleteHey Connor, even though I am a sophmore I totally get what you are saying. I am thinking about graduating and jobs already and it stresses me out so much. I am sure you are gonna do great things, congrats on almost graduating!!
