World We Dare to Imagine 1

From this quote, there was only one thing that immediately came to mind. Education. Not teaching subjects like math and history, although those subjects are important too, but I’m talking about the education of human value. It is so easy to lose sight of the fact that we are all humans despite our ethnic, financial, and political backgrounds. Modern society has created a global environment that preaches nationalism and distrust of those who are different instead of learning from those who are different. If we started teaching all children from a young age about the fundamental value in each human life then these individuals could pursue a purpose in life that aims to maximize the future value of the planet rather than choosing a purpose that maximizes their short-term profits. There has been a recent, sporadic shift to this mindset of accountability and reformation of traditional systems that have been holding certain communities back. But it is challenging to achieve change without all humans sharing this same mindset, especially with borders and varying global structures that propel people to survive rather than to create in this world. Teaching children the right way, in order for them to develop the right way, will form a new culture of innovation and passion for creating a better world.

  1. Hey Connor. I had similar ideas of promoting education of people's different cultures and living environments. In order to take next steps, I might form a group to develop curriculum that teaches young children about societies across different borders and different ways of thinking. Super cool idea.

  2. Hey Conner! I absolutely agree with your take on nationalism often making us feel even more distanced than we should as global citizens. There is much to learn from people who have different cultural backgrounds than us. As Adam said, I agree that the next step could be to develop a curriculum that you think effectively teaches the topic of human value. What do you the content of that curriculum would look like?

  3. Hi Connor. I agree that we should be educating people about different cultures. For the next steps some type of curriculum definitely makes sense. I was thinking YouTube would be a great platform for this.

  4. Hey Connor, I completely agree that besides the traditional subjects taught in classes there should be more focus on what you brought up. Being more aware of cultures will bring us together however I think that it is hard to find an objective truth that can be equally taught to billions of children around the world when just like you said there are obstacles such as varying global structures and borders.
